Arriving in Leipzig
|
As a historical traffic junction, Leipzig can easily be reached by air, train, and road.
Arriving from abroad, you will most probably come to Leipzig/Halle Airport on a connecting flight from Frankfurt or Munich. A regular train shuttle will take you to the Central Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof). |
 |
Leipzig has a fast train connection (Inter City Express (ICE)) to Frankfurt (3h15min), Berlin (1h10min), Hamburg (2h50min), Munich (4h30min), and other German cities. The trains to/from each of these cities depart and arrive at the Central Railway Station approximately every 2 hours during the day. To create your personal timetable use the Travel Service by Deutsche Bahn AG (German Rail).

Traveling by car, you access Leipzig via the motorways (Autobahn) A9 (Berlin-Munich) and A14 (Magdeburg-Dresden). Take the exit Leipzig/West from A9 and follow the highway B181 or take the exit Leipzig/Mitte from A14 and follow the highway B2, B183 to the city center (Zentrum). See interactive map (Map24).
Leipzig has a dense public traffic network of trams, trains, and busses. You will not need a car to move around in the city. Get familiar with the Leipzig transport system by Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) GmbH. Take No. 3 or 13 tram direction for "Paunsdorf-Nord", "Sommerfeld" or "Taucha" (the tram stop is in front of the Main Station, tickets available there - "Zone Leipzig" ticket ca. 2.00€ ). Leave the tram at the stop "Permoser/Torgauer Straße" (ca. 15 min, 7 stops). Cross the Torgauer Straße and walk along the Permoserstraße, after about 5 minutes you reach the main entrance of the "Science Park" and the KUBUS on the left. |
